Frequently Asked Questions

Here a selection of the questions that our plastering clients often ask …

Can you plaster over paint?

Yes, you can plaster over paint, but only if there are no cracks and holes on your wall.

We use an additive if required to create a grit on the surface for the plaster to bond to.

Do I need to remove wallpaper before plastering?

Yes, you should remove the wallpaper before plastering. If not, the plaster may not adhere properly which will result in lower durability and an uneven texture.

Can you skim over my lath and plaster ceiling?

Skimming over lath and plaster is not recommended and could cause the original plaster to pull away from the laths which would be messy. If you have lath and plaster there are a couple of options. You can remove the lath and plaster completely and start afresh. Or alternatively you can plasterboard over the top of the existing lath and plaster and skim to finish. Removing lath and plaster can be messy so in most cases, people opt to plasterboard over it.
